Sidux is a desktop-oriented Linux distribution based on the “unstable” but most modern and up-to-date Debian branch called Sid (from the Toy Story character). The main aim of Sidux is to enhance and stabilize Sid, using its very own packages and scripts to allow a hassle-free use of Debian’s latest and cutting edge software. All in all, Sidux is a solid desktop system that could very well meet the needs of anyone wishing for a fairly complete but purely open source solution. I found Sidux to be very stable with well above average performance. Sidux is easy to install since it recognizes more hardware that any other distro (an improvization of Knoppix technology). Newcomers to GNU/Linux will find Sidux easy to use and the Sidux support is exceptional. The Sidux manual is well-written and there is always friendly and quick advice available at the Sidux IRC Chatroom and Forum. Give it a try.
Geekplanet.ca is a Canadian effort to unite the power of Geek(tm) within the Northern Ontario region and the world. It is our goal to reunite like-minded geeks to discuss all aspects of geek life, share ideas and help our fellow geek.
ThinkGeek started as an idea. A simple idea to create and sell stuff that would appeal to the thousands of people out there who were on the front line and in the trenches as the Internet was forged. From programmers, engineers, students, lovers of open source, to the masses that helped create the behind-the-scenes Internet culture. ThinkGeek started as a way to serve a market that was passionate about technology.
